![]() ![]() ![]() The largest chain of indoor waterpark resorts-with 11 locations around the US and Canada and another coming to North Carolina -has been a pioneer in the waterpark niche, always staying ahead of the pack by adding new and improved wet and dry diversions for the whole family. Why Go: Great Wolf Lodge has always strived to be more than just a place to splash and sleep. Overall this was a very poor experience and we left early because of it.Great Wolf Lodgein Poconos (Flickr: Affiliate) Looking back, I had wished we left the lodge and eaten out at one of the nearby restaurants. There was a lack of restaurant choices and the food was overpriced for the quality. The water park was nice but there was limited seating for the entire family. I sent multiple requests via email a week prior to my stay regarding nutrition information and carbohydrate counting and never received a response to my inquiries. We asked the kitchen if they could provide the nutrition information or simply provide the number of carbohydrates in the food and they could not. We also have a Type-1 diabetic 2-year-old who undergoes a strict insulin to carbohydrate regimen. This is also a terrible place to have activities for children as the front doors were constantly opening and closing causing cold air and snow to enter the lobby area. You had 30- 40 kids trying to enjoy story time or sing along time packed into a small space with people waiting in line to get into the Loose Moose Restaurant or simply entering and exiting the lobby/ waiting in the check-in line. There was a lack of signs and directions and the lobby where activities occurred was very disorganized and small for the amount of traffic and people walking through there. Our 6-year-old got through an hour and a half of one of the quests before she lost interest in continuing (took 45 minutes to find the first object). We also learned that quests can take anywhere from 6-8 hours per quest and the pass contained 2 of them. For example, we were asked to upgrade the wand for the quest and then sand to mine with was an upgrade for the mining activity. From there, we were asked to upgrade almost everything after paying over $150 for these passes. We stayed 2 nights in the Kid Cabin Suite and bought 2x Pup passes for our toddlers and a Paw pass for our 6 year-old. Seems like we were nickel and dimed for everything. I can see that becoming very expensive very quickly. Since we were only there for two days (pne night), we didn't feel the need to tack on any of the extras like MagicQuest and things like that. VALUE - even though we visited on a more expensive time of year, we still found it to be a good value, since we are a family of 6 and the room rate included admission to the waterpark for everyone, including life vests so we didn't have to travel with our own. This is a HUGE thing for me, so I was very happy! As this was our first time staying there, I can't say whether our room was renovated or not, but it was clean, comfortable, and well kept. CLEANLINESS - We found all areas of the resort to be very clean! The room, the public areas, the restrooms, and the waterpark were all very clean. Frozen drinks weren't great, though, because it's so warm inside that they separate very quickly. They had a few decent beers on tap which was really nice. The snacks in the waterpark were ok and more reasonably priced. Next time we'll just hit the Dunkin Donuts inside instead. ![]() FOOD - The breakfast buffet was VERY expensive for the quality I thought. One of our travel buddies got a prank phone call from within the report at 3:00 AM from a teenager in another room. It also meant there were older, unattended kids running through the halls at night. We had to weave through a maze of distracted people watching the talking characters to just get to the buffet entrance. This makes the lobby extremely congested and loud. ![]() CROWDS - The hotel was basically packed full. ![]()
